About

Burj Khalifa (Arabic: برج خليفة, meaning "Khalifa Tower") is the world's tallest building and one of the most iconic structures ever created by human hands. Soaring to a staggering 828 metres (2,717 feet) across 163 floors, it stands at the heart of Downtown Dubai as the undisputed centrepiece of the UAE's most celebrated skyline. Designed by the American architectural firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) and developed by Emaar Properties, the Burj Khalifa officially opened on 4 January 2010 — and nearly two decades later, it remains the tallest building on Earth.

More than a record-breaking feat of engineering, the Burj Khalifa is a living destination — home to world-class observation decks, a Michelin-recognised restaurant, luxury residences, premium offices, and a six-star hotel. A visit here is not just sightseeing; it is one of the defining experiences of modern travel.

Architecture & Design

The Burj Khalifa's design draws direct inspiration from the Hymenocallis desert flower, whose three-petal structure is echoed in the tower's distinctive Y-shaped footprint. This triaxial geometry allows each of the three wings to support and stabilise the others, enabling the tower to reach extraordinary heights with remarkable structural integrity.

The building contains over 330,000 m³ of concrete, 39,000 tonnes of steel rebar, and 103,000 m²eof glass on its façade. Its spire — a steel pinnacle extending 200 metres above the highest occupied floor — gives the tower its unmistakable silhouette. On a clear day, the Burj Khalifa can be seen from over 95 kilometres away.

What to Experience

At the Top – Levels 124 & 125 (456 metres) The most popular visitor experience. A double-deck elevator travelling at 10 metres per second whisks you to the 124th floor in under 60 seconds. From here, enjoy breathtaking 360-degree views of Dubai's skyline, the Arabian Gulf, the desert, and on clear days, the mountains of Oman. Level 125 features an outdoor open-air terrace — the perfect spot for photos. High-powered telescopes, interactive exhibits, and a VR experience are also available.

At the Top SKY – Level 148 (555 metres) The world's highest outdoor observation deck. A premium hosted experience with a personalised guided tour by a Guest Ambassador, complimentary Arabian coffee and dates, and an exclusive sky lounge with floor-to-ceiling views. Only a limited number of guests are admitted per session — book well in advance.

The Lounge – Levels 152, 153 & 154 (585 metres) Dine and unwind at 585 metres above sea level — higher than any other restaurant or lounge on the planet. The Lounge offers an indoor-outdoor dining experience with panoramic views, serving breakfast, high tea, and evening dining with curated menus and beverages.

At.mosphere Restaurant – Level 122 One of the world's highest fine-dining restaurants, At.mosphere offers an award-winning modern European menu in an elegant setting with uninterrupted views of Downtown Dubai.

Dubai Fountain – Burj Lake At the base of the Burj Khalifa lies Burj Lake and the Dubai Fountain — the world's largest choreographed fountain system, stretching 275 metres and shooting water jets up to 150 metres high. Shows run daily from 1:00 PM and every 30 minutes from 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM. The view from the observation decks above is simply extraordinary.

Tips for Visiting

  • Book well in advance — especially for sunset prime-hour slots, which sell out weeks ahead

  • Arrive at least 15–30 minutes before your time slot; entry is through the lower ground floor of The Dubai Mall

  • Best for photos: Sunset (prime hour) for golden-hour city views; night visits for the dazzling city lights below

  • Clear days offer views as far as 95 km; check weather conditions before visiting

  • Combine with the Dubai Fountain show in the evening — time your visit to Levels 124/125 to catch the show from above

  • Smart casual dress code is recommended

  • Large bags must be deposited at the counter before entry

  • Accessible for wheelchairs and strollers via elevators and ramps throughout
